The Greater Elmira Tennis Association has grown since 1997. It began with a handful of tennis enthusiasts. Their collective wisdom and energy attracted others from the community. GETA is registered with the United States Tennis Association as a Community Tennis Association (CTA). In 2005, GETA was named USTA - Eastern Section - Member Organization of the Year!
GETA’s Board of Directors is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers and professionals who come together to support community tennis programs. The organization works to coordinate and maintain programs and services and guarantees they are open and accessible to all. Key to our mission is serving underprivileged youth.
GETA is fueled by local volunteers that may act as advocates, program administrators, promoters, or fund-raisers. It is a not-for-profit association which exists to promote and develop the game of tennis as a means of healthful recreation and physical fitness.
The GETA Board of Directors needs volunteers for various programs and events. Think about assisting with tournament setup, mentoring youth, delivering food to an event, participating with fund-raising, tossing balls at a tennis carnival, locating sponsors, helping with registrations, putting up windscreens, making phone calls, writing a grant, chaperoning youth excursions..... etc. etc.
The GETA Board of Directors will be asking for your help. Membership goes beyond the money envelope and requires all of us to do our part to sustain the organization for years to come. Indeed, there is much to celebrate in the year 2007. It is vital to have our membership reflect on the accomplishments and identify areas where each member of GETA may contribute and continue the momentum.
