May 11, 2002 Whittemore Hill Cemetery Restoration
Page 3
This is another 3 piece stone. The base and second piece are already set. Kurt, Jason and Bill Jr manhandle the third stone up on to the other 2. This is a WALKER Family stone.

Any Walkers out there that might be related?

In this picture the Walker stone is set. This top part had to weigh 200 pounds. Bill Jr. put together a wooden frame to hold the 3 piece in place while the adhesive dries.
Here you can see some of the reset stones. There are 2 in the front we didn't get on this trip because we ran out of crushed stone.

Workers that were there on Saturday were Jason, Kurt, Bill, Kathy, Bill Jr., Nikki, Tim, Barb, Judy, Frank and Jan. Many thanks to them and to they ones that stopped by or emailed us to wish us good luck.

There were many others who wished to be there but because of prior commitments or physical limitations couldn't make it.

Here is another view. With this many stones standing it begins to look more like a cemetery than it has in many years. Resetting the Cornell stone in the fore ground will be a challange.

We feel that in one more trip we will be able to finish setting stones. There are plans, weather permitting, to mow on the Friday before Memorial Day. After that we will be setting the date to return to the stone restoration.

After that plans for the rest of this year will probably focus on keeping the cemetery mowed. Next year we will probably, God willing and the money available, start putting down top soil to smooth out the bad places. We have no illusion of ever getting things level but smooth enugh for a riding lawn mower will be our goal!
