Microds are go-kart size race cars driven by boys and girls, ranging from 5 to 18 years of age who participate in several classes depending on age and driving experience. Microds are grouped into two divisions, one is a conventional style microd and the other is an open-wheel design. Microds have wheels enclosed within the body of the car, whereas, open-wheels are just that: wheels out in the open like modifieds, sprinters, and indy cars. Both have steel frames and roll cages. Microd bodies can be constructed from wood, aluminum or polycarbonate (lexon.) Open-wheel bodies are constructed from aluminum or polycarbonate. Both are powered by Briggs and Stratton
5 hp engines with varying motor rules based upon driver age and experience.
These cars can reach speeds ranging from 30 to 45+ mph. All cars are built
to strict safety specifications with brakes, scrub rails, nerf bars, roll
cages and safety nets. Each car is inspected yearly to ensure adherence
to safety rules. Driver wear a full regalia of racing gear including a
helmet, neck brace, 5-point harness and gloves. The club, drug and alcohol
free, is run and operated entirely by its members and volunteers from
the racing community. Rule Books are available upon request.
