Nestled in Northeastern Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains, Slumber Valley
offers the camping family the scenic seasonal beauty of majestic mountains, evergreen
and deciduous forests and bountiful wildlife. Enjoy an early morning bird walk and marvel
at the variety found in the meadows and forests throught the campground , or a well-
stocked trout stream rushing through the campground reaching the splendor of a 20-foot
waterfall as it cascades over rocks worn smooth at the edges.

Located along the Meshoppen Creek in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, The
creek lends much history to the region. The state of Penna. recognized the beauty of the
creek by placing it on their Scenic River poster for the 1993 year. The land that the
Campground encompasses and the surrounding area was used as Hunting grounds for
the Indians of the Five Nations who inhabited the region many years ago. Unique land
characteristics to the area and its geological features are evident along its creek banks and
the waterfalls still showing existing patterns of the Glacial age.

Quarrying took place in many parts of the Slumber Valley area and is displayed
by the worn bore holes that exist on the rocks at the top of the falls.

Slumber Valley Campground is another great place to stay when researching
genealogy. It is located in Meshoppen, Pa. (Wyoming County). Slumber Valley is minutes
away from the Courthouse in Tunkhannock, as well as the Wyoming County Historical
Society. Montrose is also about 15 minutes away where you can visit Susquehanna
County Historical Society and the Susquehanna County Courthouse. It is an ideal place
to use as your base for research.

Slumber Valley Campgrounds is also one I know well. It was started by my
Aunt Marge and Uncle Harold Jennings and now run by their children.

Other places of research interest are: Historic Wyalusing Rocks, Historic French
Azilum, Luther Mills Covered Bridge, Nicholson Viaduct, Old Mill Village, Scranton Coal
Mines.
